Abstract

The flipped classroom approach reverses conventional teaching practice, aiming to maximize one-to-one interactions and minimize direct instruction. A number of studies have been conducted to evaluate the effectiveness and utility of the approach for language teaching. However, research into its applications for the teaching of Arabic and its role in developing creativity in language learning and teaching has been limited. This paper considers to what extent prevailing socio-cultural values among students and notions of power and authority among language practitioners impact creative implementations of the flipped classroom.
