The starting point of this project lies in the Olympic Games: the award of the 2012 Olympic Games to London as host city as well as the shared fundamental principles of Olympianism and intercultural communication which include joy of effort, educational value of good example and mutual understanding among others. The 2012 London Olympic Games offer a key opportunity to put in place a coherent national language strategy and policy. In this context the HE sector, through teaching, research and knowledge transfer is key to extending delivery of skills for more effective linguistic and cultural exchange.
