The London Student Pledge (LSP) formed part of the London Challenge Strategy of 2003-2008 and was designed to widen young people’s experiences and raise aspirations through the creation of enrichment activities for them inside and outside school. It offered 10 challenges for London secondary school students to achieve before the age of sixteen. Since 2003, 25 organisations have been part-funded to provide students with opportunities to achieve the Student Pledges. The evaluation looked at the delivery and impact of funding during the last three years of the programme on 21 organisations and whether it added value to the London Student Pledge and the London Challenge Strategy. A financial audit and interviews with project staff of the 21 providers was conducted together with a comparison sample of ten providers not in receipt of funding. Semi-structured interviews and focus groups with students in a sample of ten schools that had participated in activities part funded by the LSP were also carried out.
