The project sought to enrich the undergraduate understanding and experience of citizenship through practical activities working in and with schools and further education colleges, particularly those institutions serving disadvantaged communities. It involved collaboration between Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College (BCUC), the University of East London (UEL) and Crucible at Roehampton University. The main teaching and learning activities included the design and delivery of two new modules, ‘Citizenship and Identity’ at level 1 at BCUC and ‘Doing Citizenship’ at level 2 at UEL. Research was undertaken into undergraduate students’ perspectives on citizenship and their experiences of studying citizenship both at school and university. This research included a comprehensive evaluation of both modules plus an evaluation of an already established ‘Teaching Citizenship’ level 3 module at BCUC.
