Abstract
Modern computer integrated manufacturing systems move materials between process centers in a Flexible way in order that the production process maximizes the utilisation of the physical plant. An analogy is drawn between the newly emergent parallel processig computing machines, which transfer packets of data between various CPU's, to maximise the efficiency of the computation, and manufacturing systems which transfer materials between various machines, to maximise the efficiency of production.
